Biography

Jo Cook is a Research Associate at SEI York, working within the Sustainable Consumption and Production research group to link the environmental impacts of commodity production to consumption. They contribute to the ongoing development of SEI’s Input-Output Trade Analysis (IOTA) model and are a part of Trase, supporting work on increasing the global transparency of supply chains and their links to deforestation and other impacts.

Before joining SEI, Jo was a Research Associate in the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York, where they worked on the development of the DO3SE-Crop model and investigated the use of Earth observation data to improve crop model calibration.

Jo holds a PhD in Environmental Science (completed in 2025) from the University of York, where their research focused on modelling the effects of ozone pollution on crop protein content and quality through the development of the DO3SE-Crop model. They also hold an MPhys in Physics with Astrophysics (2020) from the University of Manchester.

Alongside their research, Jo has a keen interest in advancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and has served on EDI committees at both the University of York and within their work at Trase.
