Biography

Katherine Smith is a Research Associate in the Department of Politics and International Relations. She is currently working with Professor Nick Ritchie on a Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust- funded project which aims to develop theories of social change with UK civil society organisations in the peace and security community.  Her prior research lies in areas of youth studies and social movement studies and she has a range of experience working with inter-disciplinary teams in the UK and Europe on studies of youth political participation and young people’s emotional support and mental health, using qualitative, mixed-methods and creative/participatory methods. Prior to completing her PhD, Katherine worked for several years in the third-sector, predominantly as a Youth Worker. Katherine received her PhD from the University of Sheffield in 2020.
