Conditional Acceptance

Abstract: The questions of what are the correct semantics for indicative conditionals, and relatedly, under what circumstances one should accept a conditional are notoriously difficult. In this paper I present a new challenge for addressing these issues. I will present a case involving an utterance of an indicative conditional. I show that three highly prominent theories of conditionals predict that in the case you should give the conditional a high credence, but argue that this prediction is wrong. I conclude by discussing what lessons we can learn from this both for the semantics of conditionals and in epistemology more generally.
