Academic Lead

Jackie Mosely is a mass spectrometrist with research interests in instrument and application development, focusing on ionisation techniques for new molecules, expanding the capabilities of tandem mass spectrometry and ion mobility separation mass spectrometry.
She has been Chair of the British Mass Spectrometry Society, and now sits on the RSC separation Science group and manages the focus groups for the International Mass Spectrometry Foundation.

Dr Ed Bergstrom

Technical
Manager
(Chemistry)

My background is in the development and use of analytical instrumentation. I provide training and technical support for the CoEMS HPLC and mass spectrometry instrumentation, analysis method development and data analysis.

Dr Tony Larson

Technical
Manager
(Biology)

My background is in plant and algal biochemistry with specific expertise in developing LC- and GC-MS workflows for screening small molecules. I have worked in charity, industry, EU, and BBSRC funded research programmes to profile a range of economically important target compounds including polyunsaturated lipids, medicinal terpenes, and opiate alkaloids. I have a particular interest in developing software pipelines for processing large-scale untargeted metabolomic datasets.

Dr Peter O'Toole

Business
Manager
Peter is Director of the Bioscience Technology Facility (BTF) at the University of York, covering the broad technologies required for a multi- disciplined Department of  Biology. The BTF covers Metabolomics and Proteomics Lab as well as his own Imaging and Cytometry, Genomics and Bioinformatics, Molecular Interactions and Protein Production. The BTF is now actively seeking to bring these technologies together in a correlative process.
  • He has current research in developing label-free microscopy and correlative light and electron micro-scopy
  • Honorary Secretary for the Royal Microscopical Society
  • Actively involved with BBSRC strategy and working groups

Dr Adam Dowle

Technical
Specialist

I have over 10 years’ experience of mass spectrometry service provision.  My main area of expertise is bottom-up LC-MS/MS-based proteomics, including: PTM identification, label free quantification (intensity-based and spectral counting), isobaric labelling (TMT and iTRAQ) and absolute quantification (AQUA and QconCAT).

Dr Swen Langer

Technical
Specialist
Metabolomics and lipidomics in model and agricultural plants. I mostly develop methods on HPLC-FLD, GC-TOF, and LC-MS (ion trap, orbitrap) platforms, aiming to improve traits through breeding and transfer pathways in synthetic biology approaches.

Dr Chris Taylor

Technical Specialist

I have been working in the field of Life Science Mass Spectrometry since 2010. I am currently involved
in a range of core facility service provision including MALDI protein ID, intact molecular weight analysis and relative quantification via LCMS. I have a special interest in protein cross-linking mass spectrometry.
