Fatih Akin's Solino (Germany 2002)

Tuesday 9 March 2021, 4.30PM

The event A screening of Fatih Akin's Solino (2002) is a student project as part of the module “Contemporary German Speaking Film” (Dept of Language and Linguistic Science). In the opening talk, students will contextualise the film, both from a historical perspective and where the film fits with the director’s other works, and there will be the opportunity to ask questions afterwards.

This film follows an Italian family as they leave their hometown and move to Germany in the sixties in search of a better life, and open the first pizza restaurant in their area. The film focuses on the sons, Giancarlo and his younger brother, aspiring filmmaker Gigi, and the way their relationship with their parents and each other changes as they grow up and fall for the same woman.

Please note, whilst the film will have English subtitles, the introduction and Q and A will be in German language.

The event is free. To register: A screening of Fatih Akin's Solino (2002) Registration Form.
