Societies and groups

Art History Society

The Art History Soc was started a few years ago by History of Art students who felt the need for an extension to their degree.  This year we have joined forces with SAASY, (Society for Art and Architecture Scholarship in York) to bring you a bigger better society! With our resources pooled together we aim to offer more events that will hopefully appeal to you.

Each semester events are varied, but fall along the lines of nights out in York, trips to see exhibitions, or talks from a member of staff from the History of Art Department or from the local area.  We also have links to the Friends of York Art Gallery.

Langwith Arts/Norman Rea Gallery

The Norman Rea Gallery is run entirely by students at the University. Situated above The Courtyard in Langwith College, the gallery hosts exciting exhibitions throughout the year and promotes the work of both student and professional artists.

The Norman Rea Gallery is open weekdays 9am till 6pm.

For further information, and to find out about upcoming exhibitions visit The Norman Rea Gallery Facebook Page.

Aspectus: Postgraduate Journal for Visual Culture

Aspectus is an online journal conceived by and run by our postgraduate students. The editorial board seeks to publish a body of work that represents the vast array of research being conducted by both the students and alumni of the department.

History of Art Postgraduate Forum

The History of Art Postgraduate Forum provides a platform for PhD students to share ideas, present work, discuss a controversy or theme, read texts or look at images together, or arrange brown bag lunches, drinks, parties, or outings.

To keep up to date, you can find us on Facebook (please note that only current students will be granted membership to this group).
