What types of activity can you get involved in?

There are a broad range of activities that partnership members can get involved with. All group members are invited to the Annual Partnership Meeting, and depending on your interests you may be invited to take part in other activities.

Annual Partnership meetings

We hold an annual partnership meeting. All SUCI partnership members and staff are welcome to attend. The meeting will provide:

  • opportunities for feedback on the previous years SUCI engagement in all aspects
  • any important departmental and programme updates
  • new opportunities to get involved with SUCI group projects
  • an opportunity to hear feedback from SUCI members, students and staff
  • an opportunity to meet other members of the partnership and staff involved in the SUCI group
  • recognition of involvement of SUCI members in teaching and learning activities during the year.

SUCI partnership members are encouraged to join the meeting in person however hybrid (remote meeting) facilities will be provided for those that are unable to attend in person. We will aim to provide refreshments and will ensure the venue is accessible for those wishing to attend in person.

Contribute to SUCI task and finish group projects

The service user and carer staff group aims to promote, encourage and increase the use of service users and carers in teaching and learning activities across Health Sciences programmes.

In order to facilitate this, specific task and finish groups are established to promote SUCI agendas. Service users and carers can select a task and finish group(s) that they are interested in being involved with and will meet separately with staff leadership.

Examples of task and finish groups include:

  • increasing SUCI visibility in the Department
  • developing staff awareness and training in service user and carer involvement
  • staff training.

Contribute to programme design development

Partnership members can contribute to the design and development of our programmes. This includes:

  • participating in consultation/validation events about the content of new programmes
  • working alongside programme teams to develop educational resources and activities
  • contributing to reviewing current programmes.

Contribute to teaching and assessment of students and learners

Students and learners value service users and carers contributing to their teaching sessions. SUCI members are experts by experience and their contributions will enhance and support teaching and learning. SUCI partnership members contribute to this in a range of ways including but limited to:

  • case study development
  • working with small groups of students and learners in seminars
  • facilitating and supporting group work
  • contributing to simulated learning activities/role play
  • talking to groups of students or learners in a lecture setting.

SUCI partnership members will collaborate and work with a member of the teaching team and be supported to develop any session that they are involved with.

Recruitment of students/learners

SUCI partnership members could be involved in a variety of ways such as:

  • taking part in interviews
  • joining workshop style activities
  • talking to prospective students on selection days.

Training and support is provided for any partnership member interested in taking part in the recruitment activities.
