Student Representation

The Department of Health Sciences is required and committed to provide suitable mechanisms for the representation of students’ views and opinions. There are many formal and informal channels which allow this to take place.

The primary channel is through our Student Representatives. There are several roles available, which include the following:-

  • Department Representatives (usually one for pre-registration students and one for postgraduate taught and research students)
  • Academic Representatives (at least one for each programme).

Each of these roles are integral to the department's ability to engage effectively with all students and learners and to develop our sense of community. They all represent their fellow cohorts' voice and inform the department of what is working well within a programme or what requires further development. The Student Services Team and academic colleagues work closely with all department student and learner representatives, and each are highly valued.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

Student Representatives have a range of responsibilities, with a level of expectation to each role.

  • To identify concerns from students and learners, and gauge the opinions of their fellow peers.
  • To attend departmental and relevant meetings, and raise any issues where appropriate and required to these meetings.
  • To inform students and learners regularly of updates (such as from meetings) and current matters of discussion within the department.
  • To liaise with other Representatives across the department and wider University.
