YoU English Student Decolonizing Forum

Wednesday 2 February 2022, 4.30PM

Are you interested in debates about decolonization and the university? What might these conversations mean for the discipline of English? What can you, as students, do to think more widely and in more engaged ways about this topic?

Dr Olivia Carpenter and Dr Lola Boorman are facilitating a Student Decolonizing Forum to bring together interested students and to have a discussion about the theoretical and concrete implications of decolonization, what we're doing in the department, and where we can all go from here.

We'll hear from some student speakers, including from York's Anti-Racist Working Group, who are already doing fascinating and important decolonizing work, and we'll end by having a discussion about how we understand decolonizing and what we might do together as a department. Please come along with some ideas about what the terms 'decolonizing/decolonization' means to you (reading recommendations are always welcome). It's ok (and very much encouraged) to also come along with questions!

We hope to see you there!
