Things, Greenly: Poetry with Vahni (Anthony) Capildeo and J. R. Carpenter

Thursday 25 November 2021, 6.00PM

Writers at York is thrilled to welcome you to J. R. Carpenter and Writer in Residence Vahni (Anthony Ezekiel) Capildeo's conversation across poetry.

Drawing inspiration from the breadth of transatlantic imaginaries to the smallness of bird and leaf, working in media ranging from digital to tactile, these occasional collaborators invite you to share their (safely distanced!) space and (fearlessly spacy) words. This event also marks the York launch of Capildeo's Like a Tree, Walking (Carcanet, 2021). Some books will be available to purchase.

Vahni (Anthony Ezekiel) Capildeo FRSL is Writer in Residence and Professor at the University of York. Their eight books and nine pamphlets include Like a Tree, Walking (Carcanet, 2021), a Poetry Book Society Winter Choice. Capildeo's interests include silence, crisis, excess, plurilingualism, traditional masquerade, and the embodied imagination of place. Capildeo is a regular non-fiction writer and contributing editor at PN Review.

J. R. Carpenter is an artist, writer, and researcher working across performance, print, and digital media. Her digital poem The Gathering Cloud won the New Media Writing Prize 2016. Her print poetry collection An Ocean of Static was highly commended for the Forward Prizes 2018. Her most recent collection, This is a Picture of Windwas listed in The Guardian’s Best Poetry Books of 2020 and longlisted for the Laurel Prize 2021.
