"Trim songes of love they wyll compile”: Reforming verse and godly recreations

Anthologies and the poems they gathered had rich social lives. This paper will focus on how John Hall read Songes and Sonettes alongside The Court of Venus in his Courte of Vertue, recrafting and reforming these ’Trim songes of love’ into lyrics suitable for godly recreation.
