Biography

Vishnu Prasad Sapkota is a PhD student in the Department of Economics and Related Studies (DERS) at the University of York. His doctoral research examines healthcare market in low-and middle-income countries, specifically on the issues of health insurance, quality of care, and universal health coverage (UHC). His PhD is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through the White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership.

Mr. Sapkota holds an MA/M.Phil. in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and an M.Sc. in Public Health (Health Economics) from the University of Southern Denmark, Denmark. Before joining the University of York, he served as a Lecturer in Economics at Tribhuvan University, where he is currently on study leave to pursue his doctoral studies. At Tribhuvan University, his teaching responsibilities included courses in Microeconomics and Health Economics.

Mr. Sapkota received an Adam Wagstaff Award (Honourable Mention) for his paper titled “Coping (More or Less) with Health Shocks: A Longitudinal Perspective on Financial Protection from Nepal” at the World Congress on Health Economics, organized by the International Health Economics Association (IHEA) in Bali, Indonesia, in July 2025. In addition, he has worked as a part-time consultant with the World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva since 2018,where he contributed to measuring financial protection indicators and preparing Global Monitoring Reports on Universal Health Coverage.
