Society for Social Medicine Annual Meeting

NIHR Applied Research Collaborations

CRD is pleased to be part of two recently awarded Applied Research Collaborations (ARCs) and will be working with colleagues in the Centre for Health Economics, the Department of Health Sciences, and the Department of Social Policy and Social Work as well as with other institutions and organisations in two strategic partnerships to tackle the region’s greatest health challenges in Yorkshire and Humber and the North East and North Cumbria.

Modelling approaches for histology independent cancer drugs to inform NICE appraisals

As part of the Technology Assessment Review (TAR) Programme, CRD staff have been collaborating with colleagues from the Centre for Health Economics (CHE) to explore the extent to which the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) existing approaches for assessing clinical and economic value can be applied to technologies developed for histology independent indications and any changes that might be required.


Police-related mental health triage

Police services increasingly receive emergency calls involving people with perceived mental ill health where no crime has been committed. Police officers have to then make decisions about how best to resolve such incidents. The York Evidence Synthesis Centre at CRD has recently published a rapid synthesis of evidence on triage interventions aimed at these types of situation.


“Including children in research” symposium

Dr Bob Phillips recently presented a symposium at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health 2019 International Conference on including children in research. This symposium attracted researcher active paediatric clinicians to discuss a range of ways of making research projects sensible, ethical and relevant.


Gender inequalities in clinical academic careers

Jess Morgan, NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Oncology at CRD and Professor Gabrielle Finn, Director of the Health Professions Education Unit at the Hull York Medical School (HYMS) are collaborating on a new research project to understand the experiences, barriers and motivators of those who enter a clinical academic career pathway, with a specific focus on gender imbalances.


New partnership with Universidad del Desarrollo

Rachel Churchill and Noortje Uphoff have been awarded a small grant by the Risk, Evidence, and Decision-Making research theme from the University of York to establish a new collaboration between the Cochrane Common Mental Disorders (CCMD) group at CRD and the Program of Social Studies in Health at the Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile led by Professor Baltica Cabieses.
