Nathaniel Jones is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Drug Discovery in the laboratory of Prof. Jeremy Mottram. He is working on a GSK-funded project to validate potential drug targets inLeishmania parasites using CRISPR/Cas9 and inducible knockout systems. Nathaniel previously worked on Trypanosoma brucei during his PhD, using RNAi to identify protein kinases as drug targets and regulators of life stage differentiation in this organism. Following this he worked in David Sibley’s laboratory to characterise secreted protein kinases in the apicomplexan parasite Toxoplasma gondii and identified several that regulate the severity of tissue cyst burden during chronic infections; he also worked to validate small molecule protein kinase inhibitors of the ROP18 virulence factor of this parasite as tools for chemical biology.
