Platelet and megakaryocyte actin dynamics – peeking beyond the diffraction limit

Friday 27 October 2017, 1.00PM

Speaker: Dr Steve Thomas, Institute of Cardiovascular Science (ICVS), College of Medical and Dental Sciences, University of Birmingham

The actin and microtubule cytoskeletons play a key role in the formation and proper function of platelets and megakaryocytes. We have been using advanced fluorescence microscopy to monitor actin dynamics in platelets and megakaryocytes and in the seminar I will present some of our current studies using super-resolution and light sheet imaging to investigate the organisation of the cytoskeleton during platelet activation and megakaryocyte proplatelet formation.
