Biography

I am a Lecturer specialising in Chemistry Education in the Department of Chemistry. My research interests include inclusive teaching and learning in chemistry.

Research

Projects

I supervise individual BSc and MChem final-year projects in Chemistry Education with the overall themes of inclusive practice, equity and social justice. I also supervise and assess projects as part of the BSc Chemistry Communications programme.

Previous projects

  • Investigating the impact of alternative conceptions and chemophobia on marginalised groups.
  • A study of current and former Chemistry students' attitudes towards model types in chemistry education: How virtual reality compares to established methods.
  • Does the national curriculum have an impact on our attitudes towards environmental sustainability, and does differing levels of education affect understanding of key issues such as pollution and climate change?
  • An investigation into how attitudes towards science are affected by STEM connections with development and evaluation of a targeted outreach intervention.
