Free-Radical Chemistry and Spectroscopy
Now an emeritus Professor, Bruce Gilbert’s current activities in chemistry and education include involvement at national, university and departmental levels. For example, his continuing research interest in the reactions and detection of free radicals is reflected in the publications shown below and his role as Editor of the series of Specialist Periodic Reports (SPR) on Electron Paramagnetic Resonance published by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). He is also Chair of the Editorial Board for the series of SPR books and a member of the RSC’s Publication Board. In July 2007 he becomes Chair of the new RSC Strategy Board to handle the business of Awards, Conference and Travel Grants. His work in the Department includes an involvement with assessment of BSc and MChem programmes as well as the publication “Chemistry Review” and the Chemical Industry Education Centre, and his more general involvement with education, and science education in particular, is reflected in his position on the Science Advisory Board of the National Science Learning Centre in York and on the Board of Governors of York College. He is currently Chairman of the University Choir.
