Department of Chemistry Equality Diversity and Inclusion Seminar

Doing science from the intersection of colour blindness, autism and gender ambiguity

Thursday 19 May 2022, 12.00PM to 1.15pm

Speaker(s): Prof. Kevin Cowtan, University of York

Science can only really function as a community activity, because the questions we are trying to answer often require us to look at the same problem from many different directions. This is enabled by having a diverse scientific community. However diversity brings its own challenges, and a tension between who we are and who society expects us to be. I will talk about how my own experience of not belonging, and how it has driven my science.

This is a face to face event, with time to chat afterwards. We have provided a zoom link for those who can't attend in person but it may not be possible to ask questions over zoom.

All staff and students welcome, more information and zoom link (york staff and students only).

Location: C/A/101 (plus online option)
