Business Case for Green

The transition of organisations to greener, more eco-efficient operations offers significant opportunities to reduce cost, increase quality, add more value to customers and to develop new business streams. As businesses become greener, and ultimately work towards sustainability, opportunities arise to actually benefit the environment rather than minimise our impact on it.

The second in a series of workshops covering Sustainable Manufacturing for the Chemical Industry from a number of multidisciplinary viewpoints, this particular workshop presents the case for becoming greener, provides simple examples of what the leaders are doing and insight into how the leaders are approaching the green challenge to create opportunities. The examples used are easy to relate to and show how seemingly counterintuitive approaches are better. Using understanding gained from the initial lecture, students will work on a case based on a leading company to propose innovative ways forward. Innovation in such leading companies can often be simple rather than based on new technology - we just have to look at the challenge with a different mind-set. The session closes with feedback on the case and a view of what could be the future make up of company operations in the decades ahead.
