Biography

Alfredo Palacios is a Research Fellow in Health Economics at the Centre for Health Economics (CHE). His research interests expand across the field of health economics, focusing on applied microeconometrics and cost‑effectiveness analysis, the impact evaluation of health interventions and policies, the identification of socioeconomic determinants of health and the measurement of inequalities in health and health care.

Before joining CHE, Alfredo was Coordinator of Health Economics at the Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS), Associate Professor at the Department of Economics at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and Senior consultant for the Ministry of Health of Argentina. He also has been a senior researcher and consultant in research projects financed by international organizations, such as the International Development Research Center (IDRC) of Canada, Cancer Research UK (CRUK), Gates Foundation, World Health Organization (WHO), World Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank, among others. 

Alfredo has scientific publications in high-impact journals such as The Lancet Global HealthSocial Science & MedicineAnnals of the New York Academy of SciencesValue in HealthPharmacoEconomics, and the International Journal for Equity in Health, among others. He also received competitive research grants, awards and scholarships from organizations such as IDRC, CRUK, WHO, Health Systems Global (HSG), Centers for Learning on Evaluation and Results (CLEAR) and Research Institute Development, Growth and Economics (RIDGE).

Alfredo holds a degree in Economics from the Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto, Córdoba (UNRC) and a Master’s degree in Economics from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), Argentina.
