Machine Learning Methods for Healthcare Data Analysis

Tuesday 2 May 2023, 11.00AM to 12.00pm

Speaker(s): Gunjan Chandra, University of Oulu

Abstract: In recent years, the use of machine learning methods for healthcare data analysis has gained significant attention due to their ability to extract insights and patterns from large and complex datasets. This seminar will cover the importance of data preprocessing and feature engineering in health care data analysis, as well as an overview of popular machine learning algorithms such as logistic regression, decision trees, support vector machines, and deep learning methods. Through a real-world case study and Python code examples, we will illustrate the concepts and techniques of how machine learning methods can be applied to healthcare data analysis tasks. The seminar will also cover model evaluation techniques and the importance of model interpretability in healthcare data analysis, including the need for explainable and transparent models to gain the trust of clinicians, patients, and other stakeholders. Furthermore, the seminar will provide resources for healthcare data analysis with machine learning.
