I am a Technical Specialist in the Lichman research group, part of the Centre for Novel Agricultural Products (CNAP) in the Department of Biology. Our group focuses on the investigation of plant natural products, particularly their biosynthesis, biocatalysts, and bioactivities. Alongside providing technical support to the team, I develop and lead my own research projects. My key areas of expertise include molecular biology, genetics, cell culture, and microscopy. I also act as the lab manager, overseeing the daily operations of the lab—this includes maintaining equipment, managing consumables, and supporting the research of others to ensure the lab runs smoothly and efficiently.
I completed both my BSc and PhD at the University of York, with my doctoral research focusing on Arabidopsis phytohormone-resistant mutants under the supervision of Professor Ottoline Leyser.
After my PhD, I worked in a range of technician roles across educational settings before joining the STEM National Learning Centre in 2019, where I developed and delivered CPD for secondary biology teachers across the country.
In 2021, I joined the Lichman Research Group at CNAP (Centre for Novel Agricultural Products) in the Department of Biology, University of York. My work focuses on developing research methods for the traditional medicinal plant Daphniphyllum macropodum, helping to establish it as a viable research system. In 2025, my role was regraded to Technical Specialist, recognising the specialist expertise I bring to the lab in molecular biology, genetics, microscopy, and method development, as well as my contributions to lab management and research support.
