Laboratory Glass Waste
Uncontaminated Glass Waste
- Uncontaminated glass waste (intact or broken) is disposed of into the designated red bins provided in all laboratories.
- Each laboratory is responsible for appointing individual(s) to periodically empty contents of the red bins into the main glass bin in the Biology Stores compound.
- All empty chemical bottles must be rinsed out with water before disposal. Chemical hazard labels should either be removed or obscured (e.g. with marker pen) to avoid any concern that bottles contain hazardous materials.
Contaminated Glass Waste
- Glass contaminated with hazardous biological agents must be autoclaved before disposal
- Broken glass contaminated with hazardous chemicals must be disposed of in the sharps bins
