Examining digital transformation of Industrial Heritage – Investigating the transformation of industrial heritage into digitalised museums for urban regeneration in China
Supervisor: Professor Gamal Abdelmonem
The number of cases where industrial heritage is transformed into museums for the purpose of tourism is increasing. This requires the reasonable and effective setting of digital interactive technology in the museum space transformed from industrial heritage. In the process of industrial heritage transformation, the cultural characteristics of the location are an important condition for giving industrial heritage creativity.
How can digital technology enhance the public's understanding of industrial heritage through interactive experience? How can digital technology change the public's understanding and participation mode of industrial heritage (from passive visit to active co-creation)? How can digital technology balance the expression of global narrative and local cultural identity in the display of industrial heritage in China and the UK? This research intends to take a comparative approach of industrial heritage in the context of China and the United Kingdom as an example, to help the digital museum transformation of industrial heritage.
My research interests span industrial heritage, museums, urban renewal, and digital interaction technologies. I hold an MA in Interior Design from the Royal College of Art (RCA) and have professional experience in digital modeling, spatial design, architectural design, model making, and educational practice.
Through my academic and professional journey, I have developed a strong fascination with industrial heritage sites. My research focuses on how these architectural landmarks from the industrial era can be revitalized through urban renewal initiatives while extending their historical significance.
