Digital Preservation of Architectural Heritage in Conflict Zones: Exploring the Potential of HBIM for Restoration, Recovery, and Community Engagement.

Supervisors: Gamal Abdelmonem, Farres Yasser

Historical buildings, as part of cultural heritage, represent local culture and are important assets to both nations and the world. However, due to recent international conflicts, historical sites in some regions have been severely damaged. To protect these historical legacies, HBIM (Historic Building Information Modeling) technology can be used to document information about historical buildings, aiding in their restoration and reconstruction. Beyond this, the information preserved through HBIM can provide additional value for the protection of historical sites in war-torn areas. This paper will explore how HBIM models contribute to the protection of cultural heritage through the digitization and preservation of heritage information, with a particular focus on the role of digitized heritage in cultural recovery, cultural promotion, cultural identity and other related aspects. Additionally, an analytical framework will be established to facilitate a more comprehensive analysis.
