Star Carr

Excavation in the Vale of Pickering

Short Videos about the Excavation

Here you can find short videos about the recent excavation.

video 1 - Not all our research focuses on Star Carr and each season we spend some time surveying in order to find other Early Mesolithic sites around the shores of the palaeolake. This clip shows one of the testpits excavated last year on the northern shore of the lake, which produced some archaeological remains.

video 2 - We started excavating at Star Carr by putting in two trenches to the east of Clark's original excavations. This clip shows the first stages of excavation.

video 3 - Later on in the excavation a number of specialists came to visit. This clip presents their viewpoints on the site.

video 4 - The weather was variable this season, with some glorious summer days but also some rather wet ones! Time Team came to film for a documentary towards the end of the dig and that day turned from a beautiful sunny morning to torrential rain in the afternoon...
