Job offers from the University are conditional upon the candidate having permission to live and work in the UK.

Every worker must have permission to work in the UK.

Responsibility for obtaining and maintaining permission to work is shared between the University and the worker, as detailed below:

Stage Candidate University

Recruitment

  • Indicate if you need to obtain UK work permission
  • Manage recruitment in a way which supports the potential of sponsorship.

Appointment

  • Follow instructions to obtain the relevant visa, eg Skilled Worker, Global Talent etc.
  • Pay visa fees and Immigration Healthcare Surcharge costs
  • Inform the University if the visa application is not successful
  • Understand and comply with the conditions of their visa
  • Assess eligibility for a work permission visa, eg Global Talent, Skilled Worker etc
  • Obtain documents and information for the relevant visa route and notify the successful candidate accordingly.

Employment

  • Arrive in the UK within the time limits specified in the visa
  • Generate a share code for a right to work check before starting work and whenever new work permission is obtained
  • Inform HR of any changes in employment or personal circumstances
  • Apply for a visa extension or indefinite leave to remain before the current visa expires
  • Manage the worker's employment in line with the visa conditions
  • Alert the worker of their visa expiry within three months of the visa expiry date
  • Retain work permission information as required by the Home Office
  • Comply with sponsorship and ATAS regulations
