Safer Recruitment Procedure
Manager guidance
The University is committed to the safeguarding and protection of children, young people, and adults at risk/ vulnerable adults. This guidance outlines our recruitment processes related to our Safer Recruitment Policy statement and your responsibilities as a recruiting manager.
When recruiting to a role that is subject to safer recruitment practices you must ensure that:
- When submitting your request to recruit you confirm that the post is subject to safer recruitment practices in the section regarding pre-employment checks.
- At shortlisting you must check that candidates have provided a full employment history and any gaps are explained. They must have also given a satisfactory answer to the safeguarding question asked at application stage.
- At least one of your interview panel has undertaken safer recruitment training. More details regarding this training are available through the Apprenticeship Unit.
- A question regarding the safeguarding of children, young people, and vulnerable adults is asked at interview.
- Confirm that references are satisfactory, ensuring that referees have confirmed whether they have any concerns that the individual is suitable to work with children, young people or vulnerable adults.
- Ensuring that training is put in place for new starters, in line with the policy statement
