Changes to recruitment procedures from 1 March

Disability Confident is a government scheme designed to encourage employers to continuously improve how they recruit, retain, and develop disabled people.

The University was certified as Disability Confident (Committed) on 21 January 2026. As a result, we are making some changes to recruitment and selection procedures with effect from 1 March 2026.

Applicants will be able to indicate on their application form whether they wish to be considered under the Disability Confident scheme. From 1 March, the University will ensure that a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a post will be offered an interview. When a vacancy closes, recruiting managers and panel members will receive an email with a reminder to check for Disability Confident applicants.

You can read more about our commitments on our University of York Disability Confident web page, which contains brief information for disabled job applicants and colleagues who are involved in recruitment. If you are involved in recruitment please familiarise yourself with the guidance for recruiting managers and recruitment panel members, which explains how to ensure that a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the post are invited for interview.
