Revised and enhanced policy, now live

The revised Special Leave Policy (previously known as Leave in Special Circumstances) is now live.

The University recognises that there are a range of circumstances when colleagues may need to take time away from work, but that it may not be reasonable for them to use annual leave or flexi leave. This policy provides a sympathetic framework for managers and colleagues to discuss these arrangements.

What's new?

The policy has been strengthened and rewritten for clarity as part of the HR Finance Transformation Programme. The Special Leave policy now includes:

  • entitlement to paid time off to support colleagues who need to attend fertility treatment
  • helpful scenarios to demonstrate when special leave arrangements might be used
  • greater clarity on what type of leave is paid and which is offered unpaid
