Re-enrolment planned for June 2025

Every three years, the University is required to enrol certain people into a pension scheme if they are not currently paying into one. The next time this will happen will be June 2025. You will be affected by this if all of the following apply:

  • you are an employee or worker of the University of York or YCL
  • you are aged 22 or over
  • you are under State Pension Age
  • you earn £833 or more in June 2025
  • you have not opted out of pension saving in the previous 12 months.

You'll either be re-enrolled into USS or The People's Pension, depending on which scheme is appropriate for your terms and conditions of work. More information about these schemes is available on the pensions webpages.

If you decide that saving towards a pension is not right for you at this time, you'll still have the option of opting out of the scheme you're re-enrolled into, however, you won't be able to do this until after you've been enrolled on 1 June 2025.

We'll be writing directly to people who may be affected by this with more information soon but if you have any questions in the meantime, please contact pensions@york.ac.uk.
