New processes to make recruitment quicker and easier for departments

New process for internal recruitment

Following departmental feedback and a rapid improvement event, we are changing the internal recruitment process for support roles. The changes provide departments with a quicker, easier and more flexible way of recruiting to posts internally.

From September the following changes will be implemented for internal-only vacancies:

  • Instead of completing a full application form with their employment history, education and qualifications, candidates will use a shorter form containing only essential information.
  • Candidates will be asked to answer up to four job specific questions set by the recruiting manager. Their answers to these questions will form the basis for shortlisting.
  • Unless otherwise specified:
    • jobs will be advertised for six working days
    • interviews will take place one week after the invite has been sent to candidates

Full guidance is available on our recruitment pages.

Grade 4 Candidate Pool: coming soon

From October we will be inviting candidates who have already been interviewed and assessed as appointable to join the University's Candidate Pool. With their permission, we will (for a period of six months) put forward their details to managers looking to recruit to similar posts.

This pool of quality candidates will provide departments with an option for quicker, easier recruitment. It will also provide our best candidates with a better experience.

Interview panels should be mindful that from October candidates who they mark as appointable may be put forward for similar roles elsewhere at the University.
