Lady Jane Grey: 'The Nine Days Queen'

Saturday 25 May 2024, 10.00AM to 4.00pm

Speaker(s): Gillian Waters BA MA PGDip PGCE

The King's Manor building, York

Lady Jane Grey was the first English Queen to rule in her own right, albeit only for nine days. Queen Jane was the designated successor of Edward VI, only son of Henry VIII, who tried to exclude his eldest sister Mary from becoming the next monarch. Edward was determined that Jane should succeed him to continue his Protestant religious policy, rather than the Catholic Mary. This day school explores Queen Jane’s claim to the throne, her brief reign, and why she was toppled so quickly.
