A Beginner’s Guide to Writing a Novel

Saturday 22 June 2024, 10.00AM to 4.30pm

Speaker(s): Sue Cooper MA

A pile of novels

If you have a novel in your head but are overwhelmed by the idea of writing it, this one-day course will help you to begin. Focusing on the first 20,000 words, we'll explore the basic skills you need to write that opening section: how to plan and organise ideas; create compelling characters; and pose intriguing questions to keep your readers interested. We'll look at how to deliver information without becoming boring and ask: how do you keep motivated to go beyond 20,000 words?
