Catalogues

Many, but not all, of our archive catalogues and finding aids are available on-line. This page gives the links to the electronic catalogues. For information and copies of legacy paper and manuscript lists please see our legacy printed catalogues page.

Borthwick Archive Catalogue

Borthwick Archive Spoke Catalogue. This is a new resource which will be launched in 2010. It is a local implementation of the Archives Hub software and as such will be familiar to many users. It will take some time to populate this catalogue so at the moment users are encouraged to use the other links below as well and to ring or email us with questions about holdings.

Archives Hub

At the present time the central Archives Hub still holds information about collections which has not been transferred to our own catalogue.

Access to Archives

The Access to Archives site, hosted by the National Archives, is a closed resource. It is not possible to add to or update the records here. Nevertheless it is still useful in giving collection level descriptions of nearly all our holdings. In addition to this there are detailed catalogues for the archive of the Halifax Family (Hickleton Papers), the Yarburgh Archive, the NHS Trust Archive, the Retreat Hospital Archive, the Rowntree Mackintosh business archive, the York Waterworks Archive and the Vickers Instruments Archive (scientific instruments maker).

Probate indexes

We have an arrangement with British Origins to host our probate indexes. At the present they can offer access to all peculiar court probate indexes, the Prerogative and Exchequer Court indexes 1688-1858, and all probate material before 1500. This project is on-going, and more index material for the Prerogative and Exchequer courts is being prepared to complete the series.
