Aims

Aims

This module is intended to develop your language skills at a very quick pace and to introduce you to the structures, lexicon and skills necessary to communicate in Spanish. You will develop basic written and oral skills and work on expanding your vocabulary and understanding of the Spanish language.

Learning outcomes

After satisfactorily completing the module you should be able to:

  • communicate in Spanish at an appropriate level;
  • show an understanding of basic structures;
  • demonstrate skills that enable you to continue to improve and acquire Spanish, including disciplined self-study skills.

Prerequisites

Demonstrable interest in learning a language from scratch, and commitment to intensive language study.

Spanish is used as the medium of instruction and learning in all classes wherever possible.

Formative assessment

Formative exercises will be assigned on a weekly basis, and feedback provided in class.

  • Oral presentation 
    • Autumn Term, Week 10
    • Weight: 40%
    • Feedback: Written feedback by Spring Term, Week 1.
  • Coursework
    • Due: Spring Term, Week 1. Work will be assigned in Autumn Term, Week 10.
    • Weight: 60%
    • Feedback: An opportunity to view marked coursework with comments will be offered at an appointed date during Spring Term.
