Aims

Aims

This module is intended to develop your grammar skills at a very quick pace and to introduce you to the structures skills necessary to understand and use German accurately. You will learn to analyse, understand and practice grammatical structures in different contexts.

Learning outcomes

After satisfactorily completing the module you should be able to:

  • understand and analyse German grammar and its use;
  • show an understanding and knowledge of grammatical structures;
  • show an understanding of grammatical concepts and terminology;
  • communicate in German using grammar appropriately on a basic level.

Prerequisites

Demonstrable interest in learning a language from scratch, and commitment to intensive language study.

German is used as the medium of instruction and learning in all classes wherever possible.

Formative assessment

Formative exercises will be assigned on a weekly basis, and feedback provided in class.

Summative assessment

    • Due: Spring Term, Week 1. Work will be assigned in Autumn Term, Week 10.
    • Weight: 50%
    • Feedback: An opportunity to view marked coursework with comments will be offered at an appointed date during Spring Term.
  • A 1-hour closed exam

    • Feedback: An opportunity to view marked exam papers with comments will be offered at an appointed date during Spring Term.
