Network Access Service

The Network Access Service (NAS) provides network ports which enable anyone with a University of York username and password to access to the network: staff, students and conference delegates.

See also: accessing the network with the Wireless Service.

Getting Started

If you have not used the NAS before, and you have not changed your  password since April 2005, you must change your password. Please visit the Password Management page linked from My IT Account.

To access the NAS you will need:

  • a computer with an Ethernet LAN card
  • a network (Cat5e RJ45) cable. You can get a free 3m network cable to connect your computer to the NAS from the IT Support Office.
  • a network client that supports 802.1X/PEAP/MS-CHAP-V2 authentication (most operating systems include this as standard).
If your operating system does not support this you will still be able to get basic Internet access by using the login option on the NAS setup page.
