Currently Kalyani is with the Centre for Women’s Studies on Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship, investigating issues of harassment against women in places of Higher Education in UK.
Kalyani Ponna Kumar is Associate Professor, Department of English, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, South India. She is also Convenor, Grievance Redress Committee for Sexual Harassment against Women; and Chair, Women’s Welfare Committee of her University.
Kalyani’s areas of research/teaching interests are Indian Diasporic Literature, Indian Women’s Writing in English, Canadian Women’s Writing, Studies on Nation, Nationalism and Identity Formation and Translation Studies.
Her books published since 2000 include Translation Studies Varied Perceptions and Dimensions (in print), Voicing the Subaltern : A Comparative Reading of Bharatidasan and Kazi Nazrul Islam, (both published by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University , Tirunelveli), Mark Twain and R.K.Narayan: An Analogical Study published by Emerald Publications, Chennai, and Translation Studies, published by Atlantic Publishers, New Delhi. She has also edited Indian Writing in English: Recent Trends with Prof.Ravindranathan which was published by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University , Tirunelveli.
She is at present working on two projects: Aesthetics of Diasporic Writing funded by University Grants of Commission, India and Memsahibs’ Writing Indian Women funded by Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla.
Kalyani is recipient of two prestigious awards/honours namely, Associate, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla and SAARC Fellowship 2009.
Kalyani is the daughter of a well known educationist in Tamil Nadu and a brave woman whose name she tags on as part of her surname. She is married to Dr.Paranjothi, Professor, Vaikunth Mehta National Institute for Cooperative Management Pune, India.
