Gendering East/West International Conference 8-10 July 2009 Travel Manchester is the nearest international airport, and is the most convenient for York (there is a direct train to York from the airport which takes 90 minutes, and works out much cheaper than the London-York rail link). Heathrow and Gatwick airports in London are popular choices. See the airport websites for details of travelling to Kings Cross rail station in Central London, and from there take a train to York. By rail: This is the best way to travel to the conference from within the UK.
York is on many central, quick rail routes. From station to St John's is a 20 minute pleasant walk through the city centre, or a ten-minute taxi ride; there are no direct buses from rail station to venue. By long distance bus: York is not a bus-hub, but travel from most places in the UK to York by bus is possible and is relatively cheap. By car: There is no regular car parking at St John's. The nearest long-stay car parks are marked 'M' and 'U' on the map linked below (Car park 'B' is expensive and short stay). If any delegate with limited mobility needs to park a car close to the conference rooms, please email us as soon as you book, and we will arrange a permit for you. By bicycle or foot: York is small, and if you are staying in the city this is a good way to get about. Bicyclces can be parked at St John's campus. Queries?: If you need travel help, the web links on this page are your best starting place. Although we are not able to book tickets, we will help with advice, so do contact us at gender@events.york.ac.uk expecially if this is your first trip to the UK. |
