Accredited Programme

An exciting opportunity to study part-time at the University of York.

This is a flexible, part-time study programme aimed at those who have not studied for some time and who would like the challenge of studying at University level in a supportive environment. All the tutors have a wide experience of the specific needs of adult learners and will offer rigorous teaching combined with sympathetic understanding of the challenges facing adult learners.

Modules can be taken at a pace that suits, though you are required to complete within five years. When you have accumulated 120 credits, you will be awarded a Certificate of Higher Education in Lifelong Learning. This Certificate is a qualification in its own right but can also provide the opportunity for further study at University level. You can find out more information about what these courses entail by looking at the Centre's general information page on the Certificate programme.

Named certificates in the following areas are on offer for 2011/12:

Students can also take the module Developing Your Academic Skills to attain 10 credits - this runs twice in 2011/12:

Developing Your Academic Skills
Is higher education something new to you and you’re not sure what to expect? Have you undertaken a module or two already and found study more difficult than you thought it would be? This module aims to boost your confidence to study at university level by equipping you with key transferable skills. Working throughout the term to produce a final assignment you will be introduced to the building blocks of academic writing step by step, supported by the tutor to develop independent learning skills and the ability to discuss with, and learn from, your fellow students through peer-to-peer activities. The module is suitable for those interested in any of the disciplinary areas of The Centre for Lifelong Learning, as there will be some opportunity to tailor the assignment to your interests.
