Marisa Michaud

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Marisa is a PhD candidate in Medieval Studies working under the supervision of Professors Jeanne Nuechterlein and Craig Taylor. Her research focuses on a c.1470 illuminated copy of the ‘vie de Colette’ (Bisschoppelijk archief Gent, formerly Monasterium Bethlehem MS 8), examining the intersection between patronage and iconographic construction, and how "enclosure" is both visualised and performed. More broadly, she is interested in Franciscan monastic culture (particularly the Colettine Poor Clares), manuscript illumination, and Valois Burgundian patronage. Marisa is grateful to the Society for Medieval Feminist Scholarship which, in 2022, awarded her the Foremother’s Fellowship to support her archival research.

She holds an MA in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art and a BA in the History of Art from Suffolk University, Boston (USA). Previously, Marisa has managed a commercial art gallery, curated several exhibitions, and worked in museum education.
