Profile

Biography

Laura has a background in biological ageing research and clinical cancer research.

Laura completed her PhD in Biology of Ageing at Newcastle University in 2014. Laura’s research aimed to assess candidate biomarkers of ageing for their reliability and validity it terms of their association with age-related outcomes. During her PhD she became particularly interested in data quality assurance.

Between 2015-2018, Laura worked on various urological cancer randomised clinical trials within the Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit at the Institute of Cancer Research, London. Her roles included trial coordination, data management and trial monitoring. The trials she worked on were a mixture of paper based and electronic data collection. Laura was involved in the design, use and maintenance of clinical research databases and also quality assurance procedures to ensure data was of high accuracy and reliable. Laura also ensured trial recruitment and retention were monitored and contributed to procedures for dealing with any potential issues in accrual.

Laura joined the York Trials Unit as a Research Fellow in December 2018. She is currently the lead trial coordinator for The Gentle Years Yoga (GYY) Trial, an individually randomised controlled, two arm, pragmatic, multi-centre trial to determine the clinical and cost-effectiveness of an adapted yoga programme for older adults with multimorbidity.
