Gloria Mongelli
Research Trainee

Profile

Biography

Gloria joined York Trials Unit in October 2022, after completing an MSc in Health Research at the University of York. She works on the Implement SWATs programme, which is using implementation science to improve evidence-based participant recruitment and retention in randomised controlled trials. This involves supporting the update of the Cochrane reviews of strategies to improve recruitment and retention in randomised trials, as well as the development of guidelines for evidenced-based trial recruitment and retention.
Alongside her duties as Research Trainee, Gloria is completing a full-time PhD in the Department of Health Sciences which is embedded in the wider Implement SWATs programme. Her doctoral project is exploring the use of monetary incentives (such as vouchers) to promote better trial engagement, in order to understand whether such incentives should be used in trials, and, if so, how. She is using methods such as a quantitative scoping review, a qualitative evidence synthesis, a qualitative analysis of trial participant interviews, and focus groups with trial staff to investigate this.
This mixed-methods PhD project is being supervised by Dr Adwoa Parker (NIHR Advanced Fellow and Associate Professor) and Prof Joy Adamson (Mary Kinross Trust and Royal College of Surgeons Chair in Surgical Trials and Health Sciences), both based at the York Trials Unit.
