Best Practice in Acute Mental Health (in association with Best Practice in Psychosis)

The day is aimed at mental health nurses and healthcare professionals with an interest in acute mental health and service delivery. The focus of the day is to explore the implications of the use of section 5 (4) and to consider the service user experience.

The second part of the day is to consider how we can promote small changes that have a greater impact on patients staff and visitors using the example of Starwards.

Start 10.30am - Introduction and Welcome. Rose Pringle, Mental Health Lecturer, Department of Health Sciences, University of York.

  • 10.45 - 11.45 Geoff Brennan, RMN, Presentation on the work done from the Starwards organisation.
  • 12.45 - 1.45 Dr Russell Ashmore, Sheffield Hallam University. Dr Ashmore will be presenting his PhD research into the use of the Nurses Holding Power.
  • 1.45 - 2.15 Service User Experience, a local service user will be reflecting on her recent experience of being detained in hospital.
  • 2.15 - Summary and close.
