Counting down to Christmas

Our 2016 Advent Calendar is here to help you count down the days until Christmas.

The calendar features a host of items from the Library’s Special Collection and the Borthwick Institute for Archives, many of them rare, and some unique to York.

A new image will be revealed each day, and you can click to find out more about each item. What will you discover?

Many of the items that we're featuring are key to unlocking the hidden history of the City of York. They're featured in our new book, Stories of York, and several will also be on display in the Fairhurst exhibition cases (ground floor of the Fairhurst building) throughout December.
