How can I support students at York?

Autumn Bolton, Emergency Student Support Fund recipient

Help us support those students who are facing unanticipated financial challenges due to COVID-19. In response to the escalating coronavirus pandemic and the financial impact it is having on our students, the University has created an emergency fund for students who need immediate financial support during these challenging times.

The fund, which is being supported by the University as well as through donations from alumni, friends and supporters, will provide bursaries of up to £500 to help our students with current issues, including housing and food insecurity, travel expenses, technology costs associated with online learning, and other financial challenges.

By giving to the Emergency Student Support Fund, you can make an immediate difference to the life of a student studying at York.

Give today

Often, it is easy to forget that some families do not have access to basic technologies at home. My internet access at home is very poor and would not facilitate first-class dissertation work. By providing this grant, you are giving students the opportunity to reach their goals in the same way that others can.

Autumn Bolton, LLB Law

"The country faces an unprecedented challenge and we are doing all we can to help our students through this incredibly difficult time. We are able to react quickly to the crisis because of the support of our very many generous donors who also wish to help those students in greatest need at this time. We are keenly aware of how fortunate we are to have such a compassionate community of donors and alumni."

Professor Charlie Jeffery, Vice-Chancellor and President

With your support, we will raise funds over the coming months to provide additional support for our students to fund additional awards. We have seen an incredible response from our alumni, staff, and student communities to support more students who are facing significant financial challenges than ever before. Students who receive financial support are twice as likely to complete their studies as those students who are not.

Every penny of your donation will go directly towards students facing financial challenges as a direct result of the COVID-19 coronavirus. By donating today, you can help support student care leavers, estranged students, medical and nursing students, and students with children or caring responsibilities.

Who can apply for this support?

All current students and new starters who are registered at the University of York on a degree-awarding programme (UG, PGT or PGR, full- or part-time, online/distance learning) are eligible to apply for support from the Emergency Student Support Fund.

We will review each application on its own merits.

You can help today

The Emergency Student Support Fund has provided financial support to over 2000 students and we are hoping to continue to offer this level of support to all students facing financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. With your help, we can support more students during this challenging time.
