I'm currently working for a year in London as a Digital Operations Intern at the Walt Disney Company. On a day-to-day basis, I help out with building pages for their websites and managing assets such as videos, but my role generally varies greatly depending on the department's priorities. The company itself is fantastic to work for, as everyone is so friendly, and they always make me feel more like a full employee rather than an intern.
Studying Interactive Media was one of the main reasons I got the placement, as the combination of technical skills and creative thinking was exactly what they were looking for. University definitely helped with my organisation and communication skills, which have been very helpful in my everyday working life, and I have also used and built upon my practical knowledge of creative programming, UX design and even games development.
I chose York for a number of reasons, the main one being that the course was exactly what I was looking for. It also was beneficial that it was in a newly refurbished department, with all the latest technology to work with. Along with this, the university itself has a beautiful campus set in a historic city, with plenty to see and do. I also loved the idea of being part of a college, as having a close-knit community really appealed to me.
One thing I particularly enjoyed while at university was getting to work with IBM on a UX Design project, as they gave me a lot of useful feedback and inspiration.
