Film and TV connections

Our award-winning facilities were funded, in part, by the European Regional Development Fund, which has specifically required us to support industry to enhance the regional economy.

We've supported over 20 commercially-released feature films and more than a dozen major broadcast television projects for the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and others.

Music partnerships

Our partnerships and external engagement are focused in several key areas:

  • Concerts: Our public University Concert Series is an important feature of York’s cultural scene. With over 40 performances each year, we are proud to host internationally renowned performers spanning many genres and styles.
  • Online outreach: Robert Hollingworth’s ‘Sing the Score' online videos (youtube.com) have reached extensive online communities.

  • Practitioners, arts organisations and business: Our artists-in-association include Quatuor Diotima (France), Ensemble intercontemporain (France) and I Fagiolini (UK). We work closely with York’s National Centre for Early Music, the York Early Music Festival, York Late Music and numerous UK and international festivals and organisations. Recent business partners include audio-technology companies such as Bang and Olufsen, RPPtv Intelligent Media and Nugen Audio.
  • External research partner: Our long-standing partnership with the Orpheus Institute Research Centre (Belgium) places us at the heart of European developments in practice research.
