UK Government Postgraduate Loan Scheme

If you're starting a Masters from September 2018 you may be entitled to a government-backed loan of up to £10,000.

 

WRoCAH White Rose Competition Studentships.

  • The White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH) is a Doctoral Training Partnership of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. It is responsible for the distribution of AHRC-funded studentships for these universities and for the coordination of a doctoral training programme.  WRoCAH is able to offer around 50 AHRC studentships per year to candidates with a place for doctoral study at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield or York.
  • Applicants for a studentship must have applied for a place of study in an eligible School, Department or Centre and may only apply for funding at one of Leeds, Sheffield or York.

Digital Creativity Labs PhD studentships - Applications closed.

  • The Digital Creativity Labs invite applications for fully funded PhD studentships in digital creativity for September 2017 start at the University of York. The Digital Creativity Labs are a world centre of excellence for impact-driven research, focusing on digital games, interactive media and the rich space where they converge.

UK/EU and International Funding

Departmental PhD Bursary

The Department of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of York invites applications for a bursary for PhD students. The bursary is worth approximately £18,000 per annum (equivalent to the scholarship offered by the AHRC) for a period of three years and will commence in October 2018. For a Home/EU student, this bursary is equivalent to a fee waiver plus living costs stipend of approximately £14,000. For an international student the funding can be used in any combination of fee waiver and stipend to suit. To be eligible you must hold a PhD offer from the department. Applicants must submit a CV and Research Proposal to tftv-pg-admin@york.ac.uk.

Audio Engineering Society (AES) - Educational Foundation Awards

If you are interested in applying to our Masters in Postproduction with Sound Design or would like to do a research degree in the field of audio, we encourage applicants to look into the Educational Foundation Awards managed by the Audio Engineering Society.

Funding awarded is generally in the region of $5,000 and will go towards your tuition fees at TFTV.  Applications to the AES are open from March 15 to May 15 every year.

Wolfston Postgraduate Scholarships in the Humanities 2018/9

The Wolfson Foundation awards funding to outstanding students who demonstrate the potential to make an impact on their chosen field. There are four scholarships available for 2018/19 with at least one in each of the areas of History, Literature (includes TFTV), and Languages.

Each scholarship offers £28,000 each year (over three years) and covers:

  • tuition fees (at home or overseas rate)
  • a maintenance stipend
  • some research and training costs

Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Games and Games Intelligence (IGGI) PhD studentships

Applications are now open for fully funded IGGI PhD studentships for September 2018 start. The IGGI programme particularly encourage projects which fit within the IGGI Grand Challenges of Embodied Interaction, Intelligent Games/ Believable Characters, Gamification and AI for Game Design, but are open to broader areas of research, especially those which have support from the games industry or have the potential for high impact.

2017 BAFTA Scholarships Programme in mainland China or Hong Kong for British citizens and Chinese nationals for postgraduate courses in China or the UK Home and International

  • British citizens studying in mainland China or Hong Kong can apply for up to £10,000 towards course fees, and up to £10,000 for living expenses. Deadline: Monday 12 June 2017.
  • Chinese nationals studying in the UK can apply for up to £24,000 towards course fees, plus up to £10,000 for living expenses. Deadline: Friday 9 June 2017.

International Funding Only

York Graduate Research School scholarships for overseas research students

The scholarships are open to international students applying to study a PhD at York and are split into three categories:

Overseas Continuation Scholarship (Masters to PhD)

For current University of York Masters students who are progressing to PhD studies at York. The deadline for applications is 31 January 2018.

  • Tuition fees will be reduced by £5,000 in the first year of your course.
  • A competitive scholarship based on academic merit and financial need.
  • You must hold an offer for PhD study commencing in between October 2018 and September 2019 and be a current University of York Masters student to be eligible to apply.
  • You must be liable to pay tuition fees at the international rate.

Overseas Research Scholarship

For applicants holding an offer to study a PhD at York. The deadline for applications is 31 January 2018.

  • You will not need to pay any tuition fees and you'll receive a stipend of £5,000 per year for each year of successful study.
  • A competitive scholarship based on academic merit and financial need.
  • You must hold an offer for PhD study commencing in between October 2018 and September 2019 to be eligible to apply.
  • You must be liable to pay tuition fees at the international rate.

Scholarship for Overseas Students

For applicants holding an offer to study a PhD at York. The deadline for applications is 31 January 2018.

  • You will receive a 25% discount on your tuition fee for each year of successful study.
  • A competitive scholarship based on academic merit and financial need.
  • You must hold an offer for PhD study commencing in between October 2018 and September 2019 to be eligible to apply.
  • You must be liable to pay tuition fees at the international rate.

Academic Excellence scholarships

These scholarships are split into two categories:

  • Academic Excellence scholarships offering a £5,000 tuition fee discount for the first year of study, for high ability students of any non-EU country.
  • Country-specific Academic Excellence scholarships offering a tuition fee discount of up to £5,000 for the first year of study, for high ability students domiciled or a national of a specific country.

Vice-Chancellor's scholarships

Five scholarships offering a £5,000 tuition fee discount for each year of study, for exceptionally high achieving students from any non-EU country.

Commonwealth Scholarships Commission

  • There are various Commonwealth Scholarships available for students studying at Masters' or PhD level.
  • Applicants will be required to submit all of their documentation, including unconditional offers, academic references and supporting statements by 22nd February 2018 to be considered for a 2018 scholarship.

CSC PhD Studentship 2018

  • We're pleased to offer up to ten joint-funded PhD scholarships in collaboration with the China Scholarships Council (CSC). The scholarships are open to Chinese nationals intending to begin a PhD in the 2018/19 academic year. They will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and CSC priorities.
  • CSC PhD Studentship information on how to apply. You must obtain an unconditional offer of study on a PhD programme by 2 February 2018.

The deadline to receive an offer is 2 February 2018. You must apply earlier than this to be considered, and preferably by early January.

 

SENESCYT Scholarships for Ecuadorian applicants
